Adjusting Map Opacity

FRIS displays a base map of North Carolina. When zoomed out, the base map displays general features, such as the locations of cities, major roads, and bodies of water. When zoomed in, the base map consists of aerial photographic imagery.

FRIS overlays the flood risk information maps on top of this general base map. For example, when viewing the Flood Zones map type, the flood zones appear on top of the base map.

The opacity of the data placed on top of the base map can be adjusted according to user preference. Higher opacity makes the layer on top of the base map easier to see, but the base map is increasingly hidden as the opacity increases. Lower opacity makes the base map easier to see, but the layer on top of the base map becomes increasingly difficult to see as opacity decreases.

To adjust the map opacity, perform the following steps:

1. Click the Map Opacity tool on the FRIS toolbar.

2. The opacity slider control is now displayed below the FRIS toolbar. Using the pointer, drag the slider to the right to increase the opacity.

3. Drag the slider to the left to decrease the opacity.

Note: The opacity slider closes when the user moves the pointer away from the slider. Click the Map Opacity tool again to re-open the opacity slider.
